Services and Rates

The City of Hugoton provides electricity, water, sewer and sanitation services to the community. The City produces its own electricity through seven generators located at South Plant, 1601 S. Washington. There are six water wells providing water for the community.

CITY OFFICES

The City of Hugoton offices are located at 631 S. Main, P.O. Box 788, Hugoton, Kansas, 67951.

The City Clerk and the secretaries are responsible for payroll, utility billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, golf course records, collection of fees for various departments, along with many other record keeping functions.

The office building is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. The phone number to reach anyone in this office is 620-544-8531.

The following may be paid in the city offices: utility bills, dog tag licenses, building permits, electrical permits, plumbing permits, fines for citations, bulk water bills, and various other charges. A Night Drop box located on the northeast corner of city hall is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for making payments.

BILLING

The City Office processes all the utility billing. Meters are read on the 15th and the utility bills are mailed out on the last working day of the month. Payment is due on the 15th of the following month.

If payment is not received by the 15th, a penalty amount of 10% will be assessed. If there is no payment on the account by the last working day of the month, the utility services may be disconnected until the past due amount is paid. A $25.00 reconnect fee per meter disconnected will be charged.

The City of Hugoton is not governed by the Kansas Corporation Commission's shutoff rules.

NEW ACCOUNTS

The City requires a deposit to secure payment prior to service on all new accounts. After twelve consecutive months of payments with no penalties, the deposit is credited to the customer's account. These deposits earn interest according to K.S.A. 12-822 and authorized by the Kansas Corporation Commission.
